Dear Youth of the Roosevelt Utah West Stake,
We are pleased to invite and welcome you to this year’s
Youth Conference scheduled for Friday, July 19th.
The Spirit of the Holy Ghost has lead your peers and our
Stake Leaders to focus this year’s Youth Conference on one of the most vital
purposes of the Lord’s Church – the Redemption of the Dead.
Speaking to the Youth in the October 2011 General
Conference, Elder David A. Bednar taught:
“I now invite the attention of the young women, young men,
and children of the rising generation as I emphasize the importance of the
Spirit of Elijah in your lives today.
I invite the young people of the Church to learn about and
experience the Spirit of Elijah. I encourage you to study, to search out your
ancestors, and to prepare yourselves to perform proxy baptisms in the house of
the Lord for your kindred dead
.
My beloved young brothers and sisters, family history is
not simply an interesting program or activity sponsored by the Church; rather,
it is a vital part of the work of salvation and exaltation. You have been
prepared for this day and to build up the kingdom of God. You are here upon the
earth now to assist in this glorious work.”
The challenge has been issued for you to become involved
and stay involved in this sacred work! Each of you is challenged to:
1.
Find two or three
family names to take to the temple.
2.
Work together to Index 400,000
names by the end of the year.
3.
Learn, Act and Share with someone else.
4.
Rescue those who are not fully active in the gospel through family
history.
5.
Infect the stake with this wonderful spirit of family history – the
Spirit of Elijah!
We promise you
that as you act and prepare yourself for these efforts the Spirit of the Holy
Ghost will attend to you in richer abundance.
The Spirit of Elijah will grab ahold of your heart and turn it in
grateful appreciation to your ancestors and our forefathers. Your joys will
expand and your lives will be more purposeful.
Sincerely,
Roosevelt Utah
West Stake Presidency
